Petit Bal

Fri 2nd, 9pm - 12am Petit Bal

Canvas@1206 travels across the pond and transforms into a Parisian café to the sound of "Petit-Bal" who specializes in French cabaret songs. Their repertoire evokes cabarets, jazz influence and Parisian streets from the years 1950 to 1970 and more recent tunes. The band was formed in winter 2011 by French born Claudine Cochet-Muchy, bassist Kent Weber, guitarist Walter Sopicki, and accordionist Scott Slocum. $3 entry after 8.30pm.

The Joe Baudo Organ Trio

Sat 3rd 9pm-12am The Joe Baudo Organ Trio

Joe Baudo was one of the first musicians to play live here at Canvas@1206 and it was very much a night to remember. Tonight we welcome him back in a slightly different set-up as he'll be playing the classic sound of the whirling Hammond Organ on a selection of Jazz and Blues numbers. $3 cover after 8.30pm.

Grüvology

Fri 9th, 9pm - 12am Grüvology

Grüvology is an expression of modern jazz and world beat including a mixture of standard tunes and original compositions. The groove is apparent , this is fusion. Grüvology members are Walter Kemp III on keys, Bernard Kunz on electric guitar, Efferin Fuse on bass with the accompaniment of Tim Webb, and Dave Phillips on percussion. Created May 2006 as the result of a duo performance by Walter and Bernard at Café Allegro in Buffalo, NY, Efferin was invited to a rehearsal and Grüvology was born. They are ever changing, always growing and constantly experimenting. $3 entry after 8.30pm.

Kinfolk

Emile Latimer, Papa, to some, is a drummer, a singer, dancer, composer, actor, guitarist, bandleader and educator. Latimer has worked with many of the greats including Richie Havens and Nina Simone to name but a few. His latest incarnation, 'Kinfolk', is an upbeat fusion of Jazz and world beat, infectious, mesmerizing and a pure joy to listen to. If you missed them last time, be sure not to miss out this time round. $3 cover after 8.30pm.

Valerie Mize

Thurs 15th 8pm-11pm Valerie Mize

Earthy yet educated; simple yet soulful; funky and fun; Valerie Mize's music is immediately appealing to the eclectic in everyone. With influences ranging from Hometown to Motown, this Oklahoma born, NYC based songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist rubs some rootsy Red Dirt on her classical upbringing. This promises to be a special night at Canvas@1206. 8pm - 11pm. Free entry

Full Swing Sound

A regular on the Canvas stage playing previously on Tuesday nights, Full Swing Sound manage to inject an element of youth and vibrancy into their set which consists of mainly Sax led Jazz but also having the ability to reach into other areas of music including the Blues. $3 cover after 8.30pm.

Felski Quartet

The Felski Quartet delivers wonderfully-played mainstream jazz, consistently rendered with their winning formula of tradition, groove, humor, and spontaneity. Although the quartet features musicians with some of the best chops in Western New York, they keep audiences smiling and toe-tapping with an off-the-cuff performing style that recalls music you would hear in the best jazz clubs in the 1960's. $3 cover after 8.30pm.

The Tripi Daniels Sessions

Tonight we host another of The Tripi Daniels Sessions with Tony Tripi, Andrew Daniels and guests. A few months ago the boys came to Canvas@1206 with The Buffalo Songwriters Circle, a sing and tell show revealing the origins of the original songs and music that they write. They have recently been busy in the studio recording new material and tonight look forward to hearing the fruits of their labour. $3 cover after 7.30pm.

Michael King & The Daniel Ross Band

"Michael King is a singer/songwriter/musician from Buffalo, NY. Influenced by a variety of genres, Michael's music echoes strains of jazz, R&B and soul, and his lyrics speak to the topics of life, love and loss. Being skilled at both piano and guitar, his live shows offer something for everyone whether he is playing solo or accompanied by the Daniel Ross Band. Daniel, also from Buffalo, grew up in the wings of professional musicians. They happen to also be his parents. Seeing first hand, the dedication and passion needed to pursue music, he picked up guitar and went to work honing his craft. Along the way his skill would place him on stage with some of Buffalo's finest musicians, such as Jerry Livingston, Carmen Intorre, and Will Holton to name a few. $3 cover after 8.30pm.

The DP Band

Thur 29th 8pm-11pm The DBP Band with Michael Merisola

Jazz/Rock fusion with Dave Schmeidler - Guitar, Bill Ludwig - Bass, Pat O'Connell - Drums and Michael Merisola - Percussion and vocals featuring original tunes and treatments of songs by The Beatles, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and more. All with a twist by 2011 "Best Original Guitarist", nominated again for 2012 Nightlife Music Awards. Bill and Pat are perennial award winners themselves. $3 cover after 7.30pm.

The Mike McNeil quartet return to the stage to entertain us with their own interpretations of many Jazz standards. The level of musicianship here is high and the sound they create relects that too.
